About the Event

This is a free taster session, covering a brief introduction to mindfulness, a brief practice and information on the full 8-week-MBSR (Mindfulness-based stress reduction) course. As well as outlining history and benefits of Mindfulness and MBSR.

Mindfulness, when practised regularly, allows us to see ourselves and the world around us in a new way. By bringing our attention to the present moment and learning to let it unfold we can learn to find balance and a sense of calm in difficult situations as well as increase the joy in uplifting ones.

This workshop gives details about the 8-week course and is recommended to attend if you are interested in joining the 8-week MBSR Course. There will be a chance to discuss and ask some questions. Basic video conferencing requirements are needed such as camera and microphone to allow for interaction and participation.

This is a free event but places are limited so please register to book your spot.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week evidence-based program that offers secular, intensive mindfulness training. It is designed to help participants develop their own mindfulness practice and learn new ways of handling difficult physical sensations, feelings and moods. It was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre in 1979 and it is now taught all over the world. It is particularly helpful for people suffering from stress, anxiety, depression and pain.

The 8-week Drama to Calmer-Mindfulness MBSR course is a highly participatory, supportive, and structured course and offers:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful movement
  • Group dialogue and mindful communication and discussion
  • Exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
  • A workbook with daily assignments and home practice materials
  • A set of Guided Meditations will be made available to the participants for home practice.
